4 smart steps to a low car insurance quote

Car insurance is a fact of life and so is getting a car insurance quote. But all car insurance isn't created equal. Age, year and model of your car, driving record and the amount of coverage needed determine how much you'll pay.

Count everyone driving

When comparing car insurance quotes, think about who will be driving. Don't assume that just because your name is on the car title that everyone else driving is covered. Consider everyone who will have access to the car, even if it's only for quick trips to the store, and include them when getting your car insurance quote.

Knowledge is power

Car insurance varies. Knowing the types of car insurance will help you get an accurate car insurance quote. Liability is required for all vehicles and covers you if you hurt someone or damage someone's property in an accident. Personal injury coverage will take care of medical expenses up to a set amount for anyone who is hurt in your car. If you get in an accident that's not your fault and the other driver has little or no car insurance, you'll be protected with uninsured/underinsured coverage. Collision covers any damage to your car while comprehensive coverage protects your car if it's damaged by something other than a crash.

Fix your driving record

How much you pay in car insurance is partly dependent on your driving record, so get a copy of your driving history from your state's department of motor vehicles before getting a car insurance quote. If there are any inaccuracies on your driving record, correct them. Make the process less time-consuming by making sure you have all the information about car as well as the drivers.

Consider the perks

Do you want your car insurance to give you a replacement vehicle or provide roadside assistance even if it's for a flat tire? Perks like that need to be taken into account when getting a car insurance quote. They could add to the premium, but who wants to worry about calling a towing service right after getting in an accident?
