The average credit card debt per household in the U.S. is more than $6,300, based on Federal Reserve and census statistics. But not everyone is holding on to a decade’s worth of debt.

To figure out which states’ residents had the least amount of card debt, we looked at the average debt amount per state, then applied the typical monthly minimum: either $25 or 1% of the balance, plus interest carried over from the previous month (whichever is greater).

Here are the states with the least credit card debt and how long it would take to pay off.
