The best cars for dates

You can tell a lot about a person from the car they drive. And the car you drive could say a lot about you the next time you're on a date. Bankrate.com put together a list of this year's top date vehicles.

Steve Pounds: Auto Guide Editor, Bankrate.com

"Our first criterion was to choose a car that was safe and sensible. But after that, it really depended on the type of people we were trying to attract. So, if you're an environmentalist, you might choose a Toyota Prius. If you enjoy being outdoors, it might be a Jeep Wrangler."

Here are some of our top picks:

In this day and age, thinking green is a very attractive quality in a partner. The new Toyota Prius gets an impressive 51 miles to the gallon in the city. The 6.1" dash touch-screen has HD Radio with iTunes tagging. And real-time traffic information means you'll never get stuck in traffic on your way to pick up your date.

If your ideal date is a weekend excursion or some rock climbing, the Jeep Wrangler is a great vehicle for you. The vehicle's six cylinder engine and open air design are perfect for getting away from the city for a while. Improvements on noise, vibration and handling means that engine noise won't get in the way of your conversation. The Wrangler states loud and clear that you love the outdoors.

If you're the family-type, the Nissan Pathfinder will attract the right sort of people. Its ample space says to your date that you've got room to grow a family. The Auto Mode senses when roads are slippery, demonstrating your eye for safety. And the panoramic moon-roof and stylish body makes this a very cool alternative to the minivan.

Rounding out the list is the Ford F-150. This is the vehicle that tells your date that you work for a living. Ford has made great efforts to reduce road noise in the cab of this truck. Door seals, shear-style body-mounts and the trademarked Quiet Steel material make sure your date is hanging on your every word. Optionall Carhartt seat-covers will help spruce up the interior, for extra credit on date night.
