Amex relaunches the Rose Gold design, adds new Uber Cash benefit
American Express has officially relaunched the (metal) Rose Gold design for the American Express® Gold Card, as well as added an Uber statement credit benefit.
This is the first time since 2019 that the Amex Rose Gold design has been available, and unlike previous launches, you don’t need a referral from an existing Rose Gold cardmember to get your hands on it.
“Our Rose Gold design quickly became a Card Member favorite when we introduced the limited-edition design a few years ago, so we knew we needed to bring it back as an option to choose from permanently,” said Rachel Stocks, executive vice president, global premium products and benefits at American Express. “In addition to the return of this special design, we are excited to now provide our Gold Card Members with even more value in dining with the new Uber Cash benefit.”
How to get the Amex Rose Gold
The Rose Gold Amex is only available to U.S. cardmembers, but you can request the design whether you’re an existing or potential cardmember.
New applicants have the option to select the Rose Gold design during the application process. As for existing eligible cardmembers, simply contact American Express by phone and ask to switch to the Rose Gold form factor—no referrals required.
Details on the new Uber Cash benefit
New and existing Amex Gold cardmembers can now get up to $120 in Uber Cash annually, or $10 a month, and Uber Cash can be used toward Uber rides and Uber Eats orders. This is in addition to the Uber Eats Pass membership (free for 12 months) currently offered to cardmembers who enroll through Dec. 31, 2021.
“Whether it’s grocery delivery for your family, meals from your favorite local restaurants, or a safe ride to work, we know people have come to rely on Uber over the last year,” said Jennifer Vescio, global head of business development at Uber. “That’s why we’re thrilled to be expanding our partnership with American Express to offer all Gold Card members a $120 annual ($10/month) Uber Cash benefit.”
A look at the Amex Gold Card
As a reminder, the Amex Gold offers the following rewards structure for a $250 annual fee:
- 4X Membership Rewards points at restaurants, including takeout and delivery
- 4X points at U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000 per calendar year, then 1X points)
- 3X points on flights booked directly with airlines or on AmexTravel.com
- 1X points on all other purchases
New cardmembers can also receive a 60,000-point welcome bonus after spending $4,000 in purchases within the first six months of card membership. In terms of dining-specific perks, cardmembers get a $120 annual dining credit when making an eligible purchase with the Amex Gold card (up to $10 a month in statement credits). Participating restaurants and partners include Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Shake Shack and more.
Amex Gold cardmembers can also utilize tools like Pay It, Plan It and Pay Over Time, which allows for added flexibility in paying off purchases and the option to hold a revolving balance on qualifying purchases.
A note on the $100 airline fee credit
According to American Express, the airline fee credit—which gets you up to $100 in statement credits each calendar year for airline incidental fees—will cease to be a benefit for existing customers on Dec. 31, 2021. As for new cardmembers, those approved from Feb. 4, 2021, onward will not receive this benefit.
