American Express has reintroduced a lucrative welcome offer for The Platinum Card® from American Express through Bankrate’s CardMatch. Starting today, consumers can see if they prequalify for a Special Intro Offer of up to 150,000 Amex Membership Rewards® points when they apply through CardMatch. Consumers who qualify for the offer can earn the Special Intro Offer by spending $8,000 on the card within the first six months of card membership.

This Special Intro Offer was previously available through CardMatch earlier this year, though it was temporarily paused from the end of May through this summer.

More details about the offer

The Amex Platinum is well known for its welcome offers, and the 150,000-point bonus now offered through CardMatch is the highest bonus that Amex tends to offer with the card. Throughout the year, Amex typically offers welcome bonuses with this card of anywhere from 60,000 to 120,000 Membership Rewards points.

However, you’re not guaranteed to receive the 150,000-point offer when applying through CardMatch. Depending on your credit score and other factors, you may instead receive a welcome offer that’s worth 80,000 or 125,000 points (the previous 100,000-point offer was removed today). All of these offers have the same spending requirement — you must spend $8,000 within the first six months of card membership to earn the welcome offer.

The American Express® Gold Card also features several Special Intro Offers through CardMatch, though they’ve remained consistent over the last several months. Depending on your credit score and other factors, you may be able to prequalify for a welcome offer of 60,000, 75,000 or 90,000 Membership Rewards points. Should you qualify, you can earn these offers by spending $6,000 on your card within the first six months of card membership.

The bottom line

If you’ve been on the fence about applying for the Amex Platinum card or the Amex Gold card, now is a great time to make the jump. You’ll have a chance to earn one of the highest welcome offers that tends to be available with the Platinum Card, and the Gold Card remains a solid value for the annual fee.
