Clearcover Insurance is an AI-powered, tech-forward company that sells policies at a third of the regular cost. The Chicago-based company was founded only in 2016 but has been making waves with its focus on affordability and hassle-free policy management and claims submission.

Clearcover currently operates in sixteen states, and its policies are underwritten by highly-rated provider Fortegra and its subsidiaries Lyndon Southern and Response Indemnity Company of California. Clearcover is targeted at modern customers seeking to combine pocket-friendly rates with technological convenience.

Clearcover car insurance

Auto insurtech is Clearcover’s strength. The company’s selling point is smarter, faster and cheaper car insurance at your fingertips, regardless of your needs. Because Clearcover depends on technology for most of the work, it spends less on staffing, marketing and physical infrastructure, thereby being able to provide more affordable and efficient insurance.

Types of coverage

The car insurance policies offered by Clearcover include all the features that you would expect in a standard policy, such as:

  • Liability coverage
  • Property damage coverage
  • Collision coverage
  • Comprehensive coverage
  • Medical payments
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist protection

In addition, Clearcover also has a number of useful endorsements, including:

  • Rideshare coverage
  • Roadside assistance
  • Alternate transportation coverage

Clearcover claims to offer the lowest rates from the start and does not provide a list of car insurance discounts. The company website mentions that price cuts for vehicle safety features, paying the annual premium in full and having a clean driving record are already built into the policy and do not need to be added separately.

The only discount specified is the one offered to military personnel. The discount for active military members and their under-25 children is 25% in Louisiana and 15% in all other states.

? As a relatively new and small insurance provider, Clearcover is not yet available everywhere. Clearcover currently offers insurance policies in the following states:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Louisiana
  • Maryland
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Virginia
  • Wisconsin

If you are interested in Clearcover’s insurance options but it does not currently operate where you are, you can give the company your contact information so it can contact you when it expands to your area. Keep in mind that it may take a while though, so make sure you are covered by another insurance provider until you can switch to Clearcover.

Clearcover home insurance

At present, Clearcover does not sell home insurance, but it partners with Hippo Insurance to offer homeowners insurance quotes from different companies. Hippo was founded in 2017 and its policies are underwritten by Canopius U.S. Insurance, Spinnaker Insurance Company and Topa Insurance Company.

Bear in mind that Hippo is a completely independent company, and if you purchase home insurance from this provider, all issues related to policy management, claims and customer service will be handled by Hippo, not Clearcover.

Clearcover ratings, reviews, customer satisfaction and complaints

Because Clearcover is a fairly new company and not counted amongst the best insurance companies, it has not been evaluated by leading third-parties such as J.D. Power or AM Best. However, Clearcover’s underwriting partner Fortegra and its subsidiaries have an established presence in the industry and hold an A- (excellent) credit rating from AM Best.

The National Association for Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) registered fewer than average complaints for Clearcover. The company is accredited by Better Business Bureau and gets an A+ rating and an average of 3.86 customer satisfaction score. These ratings are only for Clearcover’s car insurance policies. Customer reviews demonstrate an overall satisfaction with the digital accessibility and affordability offered by the company, but some customers express displeasure over the difficulty in reaching a customer service representative to talk to about claims-related issues.

Top reasons to consider Clearcover

Modern customers often look for ways to save money on insurance and have their requirements met in the shortest time. Clearcover lets you achieve both by combining the latest in artificial intelligence with smart use of resources to minimize expenditure and increase affordability. From getting a quote to filing a claim, with the Clearcover smartphone app, it all gets done in minutes. The company also boasts of having claims paid in as little as 13 minutes.

Thanks to its partners, Clearcover is financially stable and capable of paying out claims. However, Clearcover does not handle its own claims processing. When you file a claim, a company called Littleton Group will be handling your request instead of Clearcover.

If you are digitally-forward and love quick, automated services, Clearcover’s strengths may be appealing to you.
