The Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card is one of the best travel credit cards available with no annual fee. While a no-annual-fee card might seem like it will have few benefits to offer compared with those that come with an annual fee, Capital One VentureOne cardholders can enjoy valuable benefits.
The key benefits of the VentureOne Card
The Capital One VentureOne Card travel benefits are impressive. It offers 1.25X miles per dollar spent on every purchase, with no limit. And new cardholders earn 20,000 bonus miles after using their card to spend just $500 within three months of account opening.
These Capital One miles are worth 1 cent each as statement credits toward travel purchases, or you can transfer your miles to a variety of airline and hotel partners. Some transfers are at the 1:1 ratio while others are at 2:1.5 or 2:1 ratio.
|Transfer at 1:1 ratio||Transfer at 2:1.5 ratio||Transfer at 2:1 ratio|
Beyond travel rewards, you should know about several other key Capital One VentureOne Card benefits:
- New accounts receive 12 months of 0 percent APR on purchases (14.99 percent to 24.99 percent variable APR after that)
- No foreign transaction fees on purchases processed outside the U.S.
- No annual fee
- Rewards miles can be also be redeemed directly for purchases from Amazon.com or through PayPal
You can maximize these key benefits in several ways. First, if you plan on taking advantage of the 12 months of interest-free financing, make sure you avoid interest charges by paying off your balance before the promotional period ends. And when traveling outside the U.S., or making a charge to a foreign company, be sure to use your Capital One card to avoid the 3 percent foreign transaction fee that many credit cards still charge.
And while you have the option of redeeming your Capital One reward miles at Amazon.com with points and by redeeming directly through PayPal, you should make sure you’re getting the most value from your rewards. That’s because it takes 125 Capital One miles to equal $1 in redemption value for these options, which works out to 0.8 cents per mile. This is 20 percent less value than you would receive when redeeming your miles for statement credits toward travel purchases, and it’s potentially far less than your miles could be worth when strategically transferred to travel partners and redeemed for high-value airline or hotel reservations.
Other VentureOne Card benefits you might not know about
Beyond its travel rewards program, VentureOne cardholders have access to numerous cardholder benefits.
Capital One offers its cardholders a variety of security features, including security alerts. This allows you to be notified by text, email and phone if Capital One notices potential suspicious transactions on your account.
Capital One also offers you virtual card numbers from Eno, the automated assistant in its mobile app. By using a virtual card number, you can conceal your actual card number and minimize the risk of fraud. Eno can also be configured to offer account alerts that can notify you of potential mistakes, duplicate purchases or recurring bill increases.
Other security features include the ability to temporarily lock your card using the Capital One Mobile App, which comes in handy if your card is misplaced or lost. Capital One also offers its CreditWise service for credit monitoring, which provides alerts when there’s a change to your TransUnion or Experian credit report. You also receive $0 fraud liability to completely protect you from being responsible for unauthorized charges.
Capital One Experiences
Capital One has also partnered with some leading brands to offer VentureOne cardholders inside access to dining, entertainment and sports experiences. For example, Capital One has partnered with NoCap to offer live streaming performances from popular artists to your living room. VentureOne cardholders receive 10 percent off the cost of the streaming tickets in 2021 for all shows, plus the chance to purchase upgraded tickets to select shows that include bonuses like artist meet-and-greet sessions and exclusive merchandise.
Another current experience available to VentureOne cardholders is Taste America culinary events from the James Beard Foundation. These events include benefit dinners and cocktail parties featuring visiting and local all-star chefs.
Capital One Shopping
Capital One offers a free browser extension that will automatically apply the best coupon codes at checkout and lets you know when prices drop on products you’ve viewed and purchased. The Capital One Shopping tool found users more than $160 million in savings last year.
When traveling, Capital One VentureOne cardholders have access to several travel insurance policies. (Note that these travel benefits may depend on whether you qualify for the Visa Signature or Visa Platinum card; see Capital One’s terms and conditions.) One of the most valuable is auto rental collision damage waiver, which allows you to decline the expensive optional insurance offered by rental car companies when you use your card to pay for the rental.
Also included is travel accident insurance—when you used your card to pay for your ticket—that covers you for up to $250,000 in the event of accidental loss of life, limb, sight, speech or hearing while riding as a passenger.
Other travel benefits include access to the Visa Signature Luxury Hotel Collection, which offers discounts and amenities at more than 900 properties around the world. You also can receive up to $3,000 worth of lost luggage reimbursement compensation, as well as access to a travel and emergency assistance and roadside dispatch hotline. Make sure you check your specific card’s benefits guide for terms and conditions of these benefits before you hit the road.
Extended warranty protection
When you make a purchase with your Capital One VentureOne Card, you may qualify for its extended warranty protection policy, which extends the length of the original manufacturer’s warranty for up to an additional year (on warranties of three years or less). This policy offers a maximum benefit of $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per cardholder, and certain items are excluded. See your card’s guide to benefits for complete terms and restrictions.
Other benefits coming soon
Capital One recently announced that it would be offering significant new benefits to its customers, including VentureOne cardholders. Later in 2021, it will be launching Capital One Travel, in partnership with Hopper, which uses technology to help improve the travel booking experience. Features will include price prediction and alert technology, as well as AI-powered pricing recommendations.
Capital One also announced the opening of two new airport lounges that will include restaurant-quality dining, exercise facilities and family-friendly features. The first lounge will open up in late summer of 2021 at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, with a second planned for the Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C., in 2022.
The bottom line
The Capital One VentureOne Rewards card has no annual fee, but that doesn’t stop it from offering many of the same features found on premium travel rewards cards that have an annual fee of hundreds of dollars. The most important feature is its robust rewards program that allows you to either redeem your reward miles for statement credits toward travel purchases or transfer your rewards to an expanded list of airline and hotel partners.
But beyond rewards, important Capital One VentureOne benefits include numerous shopping, security, travel insurance and purchase-protection features. By taking a closer look at all of the benefits included in this card, as well as other travel or Capital One cards, you can decide which one is the best choice for you.
