First-year value vs. ongoing value
While the $350 annual fee may deter occasional travelers, regular Delta flyers who can maximize the value of the monetary perks can do well with this card. Although it can be difficult to use monthly credits, the value works out in your favor on an ongoing basis if you’re able to maximize the perks and take advantage of in-flight perks like free checked baggage.
Here’s a look at how much value you can expect to earn based on our card value rating methodology, which assumes an annual spend of $22,500 and our latest point valuations, which value Delta SkyMiles at 1.2 cents each.

Why you might want the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card
Regular Delta flyers can earn substantial Delta SkyMiles on Delta flights and hotels. The card also provides a valuable welcome offer and excellent perks.
Rewards: Solid SkyMiles rates
The Delta SkyMiles Business Platinum Card earns Delta SkyMiles, which can be used to book Delta flights, as well as any flights with Delta’s airline partners bookable through Delta’s website.
You’ll earn 3X miles on purchases made directly with hotels and eligible Delta spending, which is a good return in both categories. You'll also earn 1.5X miles on eligible transit and U.S. shipping purchases, as well as single eligible purchases over $5,000 (up to $100,000 in purchases), and 1X miles on all other purchases.
You’ll also get a $2,500-MQD boost each year and earn $1 MQD for every $20 spent on the card. This boost gets you halfway to Silver status, which requires $5,000 MQD to earn.
The best use for redeeming your SkyMiles is for booking travel. You can use miles to upgrade seats or book flights with no blackout dates. You can also use miles to book vacation packages, hotel rooms, rental cars and more. If you don’t have enough miles, you can use the “Pay with Miles + Cash” option (in 5,000-point increments for $50 discounts) to make your booking.
Other redemption options include charitable donations or gifts, magazine subscriptions, travel experiences and merchandise, but they aren’t recommended, as they are worth less than one cent per point in value.
Welcome offer: Solid SkyMiles haul
The Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business card currently offers 70,000 bonus Delta SkyMiles after spending $6,000 in purchases within your first 6 months of Card Membership. This offer is lower than the previous limited-time offer of 100,000 bonus Delta SkyMiles after spending $8,000 in the same timeframe.
Based on Bankrate’s latest mile valuations, Delta SkyMiles are worth around 1.2 cents each on average, making this offer worth around $840 when used for Delta and partner flights. The previous offer was worth around $1,200, but this offer still provides a worthwhile boost to your balance if you don’t want to wait for another limited-time offer.
Perks: Diverse benefit offerings
The Amex Delta Platinum Business card offers numerous benefits which can justify the annual fee if you’re able to take advantage of the card’s credits and perks. Although it may prove challenging to use the monthly credits or find a trip for the companion certificate, the potential for outsized value can make this card a solid addition to your wallet.
Why you might want a different business card
You may prefer a different business card with a lower annual fee or more rewards flexibility if you aren’t a regular Delta traveler.
Rates and fees: High annual fee
The Amex Delta Platinum Business card has a high $350 annual fee. While you can offset this cost through using the monetary credits and flight benefits, some people may not want a card with such a high fee or that requires a lot of effort to maximize. Delta offers a co-branded card with a lower fee, so if the value of the benefits doesn’t outweigh its cost, you might want to consider the cheaper option.
There aren’t any additional costs for adding employee cards and there are no foreign transaction fees, which are typical features. There is also no intro APR offer for purchases or balance transfers, which isn’t uncommon for cards in this category. If you need a zero-interest period to pay down new purchases, you’ll want to consider other options.
Flexibility: Rewards locked into the Delta ecosystem
Since you earn Delta SkyMiles with this card, your redemption options are limited to what you can use them for on Delta’s website. The best option is for booking flights, as any other options return a poor value. You can book award flights operated by Delta or with any of the SkyTeam partner airlines that Delta’s website can access. However, if your travel needs take you outside of the Delta or SkyTeam ecosystem, Delta SkyMiles won’t hold much value for you.
Also, Delta SkyMiles tend to not offer as much value for domestic flights as some other airline currencies. Cards with flexible currencies provide access to more redemption options and may be a better fit based on your needs.
We tried it: Here’s what our experts say
Bankrate credit cards writer Ryan Flanigan was originally only going to keep the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business American Express Card for a year, but he had a change of heart after the card offered improved credits and perks.
