Hollywood insurance requirements

One of the easiest ways to save on your car insurance bill is to reduce the amount of insurance you buy. However, it is important to consider whether having less car insurance is a good idea. Lower limits means you will be personally responsible for anything over the limit.

Hollywood’s minimum car insurance requirements are:

  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP): $10,000
  • Property Damage Liability (PDL) per accident: $10,000

Bodily injury liability is not required in Florida but drivers do have to prove their ability to pay for damages under the “financial responsibility law.” If a driver does purchase car insurance to satisfy the law, the minimum requirements are:

  • $10,000 bodily injury liability per person
  • $20,000 bodily injury liability per accident

Uninsured motorist coverage must be offered but can be declined in writing. Drivers can opt out of BI coverage and prove their financial responsibility in the 10/20 BI limits in other ways. Only drivers who can prove a net worth of at least $40,000 are eligible to do this and must provide a notarized copy of a financial statement to prove eligibility.

Car insurance discounts in Hollywood

Considering that car insurance in Hollywood can set you back up to $3,000 per year on average, finding even a 10% discount is $300 back in your pocket. Some discounts most carriers offer include:

  • Switching: Insurance companies may offer you a discount for switching in order to close the deal. The discount typically applies for the first year but could save you some money while you build a history with the carrier to qualify for other discounts.
  • Safe driver: Avoiding tickets, accidents and claims may bring you the biggest savings. Drive safely and defensively and your savings may increase over time.
  • Driver safety course: Passing an approved driver safety course can make you a better, safer driver and may earn you a discount for as long as three years.
  • Bundling: Purchase home and auto insurance from the same insurance company to get a potential discount on both policies.
