World of Hyatt is a loyalty rewards program that unlocks exclusive benefits for travel lovers. With over 700 hotels worldwide in the program, World of Hyatt can help you save money on your stay, anywhere you want to go.

You can earn points in several ways and redeem them for free hotel nights, room upgrades, hotel credit, experiences and more.

How to sign up for World of Hyatt

Signing up for the World of Hyatt loyalty program involves a couple of simple steps. The first thing you will need to do is visit the World of Hyatt website and click on “Join Now” in the top right-hand corner. You will need to input a few pieces of information including your name, email address, country of residence and then a password.

World of Hyatt is free to join, so you won’t have to pay anything for membership upfront. There are also different membership tiers that you can reach if you stay a certain number of qualifying nights.

How to earn World of Hyatt points

There are a few different ways to earn World of Hyatt reward points. The main one is by staying at eligible hotels. If you stay at a World of Hyatt hotel, you will receive 5 base points for every eligible $1 spent on stays, dining and spa experiences.

Elite members of the program can earn bonus points for their stays. Those on the Discoverist tier receive 10 percent bonus points, Explorists earn 20 percent bonus points and Globalists earn 30 percent bonus points.

FIND Experiences

Another way members can earn World of Hyatt points is through FIND Experiences. FIND is a collection of experiences World of Hyatt members can purchase. These experiences can be scuba diving lessons, music shows, sports events or travel excursions.

As many of these experiences can be on the pricey side, they are a good way to earn a lot of World of Hyatt points.

Credit card spend

World of Hyatt has just one credit card, called The World of Hyatt Credit Card, which has an annual fee of $95 a year. This allows you to earn World of Hyatt points with everyday spending. Cardholders can also get one free night at any Category 1 to 4 hotel or resort each year after having the card for one year.

Cardholders can earn 9 points for every $1 spent at Hyatt hotels (5 points per $1 for being a Hyatt member and an additional 4 points per $1 for card spend) and 2 points for every $1 spent on restaurant purchases, airline tickets, fitness clubs or gym memberships. For other purchases, you can get 1 point for every $1 spent.

Those new to signing up can qualify for a bonus offer of 25,000 points if you spend $3,000 in your first three months of getting the card. You can get 25,000 additional points if you spend $6,000 in the first 6 months.

Chase Ultimate Rewards cards

If you have a qualifying Chase credit card, you can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt points. These points have a 1:1 transfer rate.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

With this card, you can earn 2 points per $1 spent dining out or on travel expenses and 1 point per $1 on other purchases. You can also get 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points if you spend $4,000 in your first three months of account opening.

If you spend these points on travel costs through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, you get a fixed value of 1.25 cents per point. However, they are also easy to transfer to your World of Hyatt account. There, the value will depend on how you spend them.

Chase Sapphire Reserve®

With this card, you can earn 3 points per $1 spent on travel and dining. These points can be redeemed for a value of 1.5 cents per point in the Ultimate Rewards portal or transferred to World of Hyatt points, where the value varies.

If you spend $4,000 in the first three months of getting a Sapphire Reserve card, you can get 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

With an Ink Business Preferred card, you can earn 3 points per $1 spent on travel, shipping and technology purchases (on up to $150,000 combined purchases yearly). For all other purchases, you can earn 1 point per $1.

There’s also the opportunity to get 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points if you spend $15,000 in the first three months of opening an account.

How to redeem World of Hyatt points

Redeeming World of Hyatt points isn’t just reserved for booking hotel rooms. You can use these points in several ways to enhance your travel experience.

Hotel nights

The main way to redeem World of Hyatt points is to use them at one of the 700 properties worldwide. These hotels are split into award categories from Category 1 to 8. Standard hotel rooms can cost between 5,000 to 60,000 points per night, depending on the type of hotel and room you choose.

If you don’t have quite enough points for a hotel room, you can redeem your points as partial payment for the room. All you need to do is make up the difference yourself.

Booking a hotel with Hyatt points is as simple as finding a hotel on the Hyatt website and completing the booking there.

Room upgrades

For those who would rather not use all their points, or simply do not have enough to buy a room, you can use points for room upgrades instead. Upgrading to a Regency Club or Grand Club level will cost 3,000 points per night. A suite upgrade costs 6,000 points per night and a premium suite upgrade costs 9,000 points.

Hotel credits

World of Hyatt points can also be redeemed in exchange for hotel extras such as spa treatments, meals, in-room movies or parking costs. The way this works is that the points are exchanged for hotel credit. For example, 1,000 points will buy $10 hotel credit. (See full credit costs here.)

Car rentals

World of Hyatt points can also be used for Avis car rentals to save money on rental fees. A day of rental typically costs 6,000 points.

Airline miles

To make your World of Hyatt points go further when traveling, you can exchange them for airline miles as well. World of Hyatt points can be transferred to 30 different airline frequent flyer programs. These include American AAdvantage, Delta SkyMiles and United MileagePlus. The transfer rate is typically 2.5 World of Hyatt points for each mile.

World of Hyatt points valuation

Determining World of Hyatt points value can be difficult because it varies and there is not a direct cash value. How many points you will need to purchase a hotel room or experience will depend on the value of that room or experience, the time of year and other factors.

However, recent estimates from The Points Guy put World of Hyatt points value as equal to around 1.7 cents per point.

World of Hyatt elite status

World of Hyatt membership is free, but there are elite statuses you can achieve if you become a regular traveler.

Hyatt Discoverist

The first tier in the World of Hyatt rewards program is the Discoverist status. This status can be earned once you have spent 10 qualifying nights at a World of Hyatt hotel or have 25,000 base points available. This status is also an automatic benefit of having the World of Hyatt Credit Card.

Being part of the Discoverist membership gives you 5 base points per $1 spent plus 10 percent bonus points on eligible purchases. You will also be entitled to expedited check-in, member rates, waived resort fees and more.

Hyatt Explorist

The next stage you can achieve with World of Hyatt is the Explorist tier. You will reach this status if you have 30 nights at a Hyatt hotel or 50,000 base points.

This level gives you the same number of base points per dollar, but you can also get 20 percent bonus points on eligible purchases. You may also be able to get room upgrades as well as lounge access awards.

Hyatt Globalist

The top tier in the World of Hyatt is the Globalist tier. To reach this level, you must have had 60 nights or 100,000 points on your account.

This gives you 5 base points per $1 spent as well as 30 percent bonus points on eligible purchases. This tier unlocks a range of additional benefits including priority access to hotel rooms, free parking, Club Access or breakfast, late checkout and more.

Bottom line

The World of Hyatt rewards program opens plenty of rewards and savings for members at all levels. The more you use it, the better deals and perks you can unlock to make your traveling experiences unforgettable. With so many ways to earn and redeem points, plus the fact that it’s free to join, it’s a no-brainer to set up an account.
