Shoppers may need to do a little homework to find sales this month — with the holidays right around the corner, October may seem a bit quiet when it comes to retail sales promotions — but they are out there.

October shoppers will see a lot of markdowns on winter apparel. If you’re preparing for the coming cold, you may be able to save 10 to 20 percent depending on the store.
October is the second busiest wedding month of the year so bridal goods are on sale as well as traditional wedding registry gifts such as bedding, stemware, china and silverware.
Summer sporting goods are on sale this month. Now is the time to buy things like baseball gloves, tennis rackets, bikes and golf clubs.
As well stock up on fall foods such as apples, pears and hearty greens. Buying food that is in season nearly always guarantees a good deal. Now may be a good time to stock on holiday pantry items as well, as they may be marked up by November.
