How are you feeling about your overall financial security? According to a recent survey by Bankrate.com … it’s not positive. I’m Kristin Arnold with your Personal Finance Minute.
It’s been a pretty harried month, with a stock market correction, credit rating downgrade, and worries of a double-dip recession. How has this affected consumers and their feelings of financial security? Greg McBride, senior financial analyst with Bankrate.com says – not good.
“Feelings of job security, savings, net worth and overall financial security each hit their low points of the year. One in three Americans say their overall financial situation is worse now than a year ago, including 41% of senior citizens who feel that way. “
And what about retirement contributions — have those gotten better or worse from a year ago?
“Among employed Americans, that is, people that have earned income and are eligible to contribute, those contributing less towards retirement compared to last year, outnumbered those saving more by almost two to one.”
