The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card has more than a few notable benefits. It has no annual fee, yet it offers generous category bonuses on purchases at Amazon, Whole Foods Market and beyond. Plus, as a welcome offer, this rewards credit card offers a $150 Amazon gift card upon approval.

But there is a little-known benefit that could be even more valuable than all of these features combined: up to 25 percent cash back on select Amazon purchases. Whether you’re a frequent Amazon shopper or use the site primarily during the holiday season, this card benefit can add up to substantial savings.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card’s discount of up to 25 percent on select purchases, from what types of products qualify for this discount to how exactly it’s applied.

Which items are eligible for up to 25% cash back?

Select items listed on Amazon’s promotion page qualify for up to 25 percent cash back. Categories include electronics, office supply products, toys, kitchen appliances and more. The electronics category can be particularly valuable, with discounts frequently offered on phones, select laptops, tablets and more. In the home and kitchen category, you can enjoy discounts on essential household appliances—past items have included Breville espresso machines and Vitamix blenders—and select furniture items.

Considering the cost of some of these products, the discount of up to 25 percent can translate to substantial savings. Plus, many of these products are already on sale, making the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature bonus even more attractive.

Note that, in order to qualify for this discount, the item you purchase must be sold and shipped by Amazon and paid for with an eligible card. The bonus cash back reward will be posted to your account within a week of the transaction and be available to use within one to two billing cycles.

Is the discount always up to 25% cash back on select purchases?

The normal Prime card bonus is 10 percent to 15 percent back. However, at different times, the discount can increase to upwards of 25 percent for a limited time. The timing often coincides with the holiday shopping season. With Amazon being a hotspot for deals, this offer creates an added incentive for Prime members to get an Amazon Prime Rewards Visa and for existing cardholders to do their holiday shopping on Amazon.

Is this in addition to the 5% cash back on Amazon?

The higher cash back rate of 10 to 25 percent back includes the 5 percent cash back you’d normally earn on Amazon purchases with the Prime card. As such, you won’t earn additional cash back beyond the maximum 25 percent.

Who qualifies for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card?

To qualify for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card, you must first and foremost have an Amazon Prime membership, which costs $119 per year. (Note: Amazon Prime annual membership plans are increasing to $139 on Feb. 18, 2022 for new members. For current Prime members, the new annual price will kick in after March 25, 2022, on the date of their next renewal).

Additionally, you’ll need at least a good credit score to qualify for the card, which means having a credit score in the 670 to 739 range. If your credit score falls short of this range, be sure to read our tips on how to improve your credit score before applying for this card.

It’s important to note that banks take various factors into consideration when evaluating credit card applications. Even if your credit score falls into the good range, it’s not a guarantee that you’ll be approved. You may have better odds of approval if your score is in the very good to excellent range (740 to 850).

Which other Amazon cards are eligible for up to 25% cash back on select items?

Three Amazon credit cards are eligible for up to 25 percent cash back on select items:

All three cards are open to Amazon Prime members and carry no annual fee.

Outside of this promotion, you’ll earn 5 percent cash back on Amazon purchases with the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa and Amazon Prime Store Card. The Amazon Prime Secured Card earns 2 percent cash back on Amazon purchases.

Meanwhile, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa also offers 5 percent cash back at both Amazon and Whole Foods, along with 2 percent back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores. All other purchases earn 1 percent cash back. If you want to earn rewards outside of Amazon, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa is the best of the three card options.

The bottom line

The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card’s offer of up to 25 percent on select items is a great promotion, especially during the holiday shopping season. The card has no annual fee and offers generous category bonuses beyond this limited-time offer. If you’re already a Prime member and do a lot of shopping on Amazon, this card is a good pick due to its 5 percent cash back on Amazon purchases. The additional cash back potential on an array of items is simply icing on the cake for those who know they’ll be clicking “Buy Now” more than a few times during the holidays and beyond.
