How do you feel about your job security compared to 12 months ago?

  • The percentage of people feeling more secure about their job fell a steep 5 percentage points from June's 20 percent.
  • Women were only half as likely to feel more secure than men, 10 percent versus 20 percent.
  • Workers ages 30 to 49 were by far most likely to feel less secure, at 29 percent.

Employee job security has not returned to pre-recession levels.

While there have been some recent positive indicators in the labor market such as pay raises trending up toward pre-recession levels, employee sentiment about their job, their company and the job market will likely remain tempered until they see consistent and sustained periods of growth. Lack of job security undermines workplace morale and contributes to worker stress. And the difference in job security between men and women is dramatic and alarming. Employers need to be aware of this and offer ways to mitigate stress.
