Aspire General Insurance Company is a California-based auto insurer with 100+ years of experience writing policies. It may be one of the best car insurance companies in California to consider for high-risk drivers with past infractions on their records, or those who are not eligible for coverage with other major insurers due to their claims history or other risk factors. Aspire General auto insurance is only available to residents of California. The company underwrites its own policies, which are offered through a state-wide network of independent brokers.
|Bilingual customer service||Policies may be more expensive|
|Flexible payment plans||Only available in California|
|Specializes in non-standard insurance for high-risk drivers||Only has a B+ “good” rating from AM Best|
Aspire General auto insurance may not be the right choice for everyone, but if you live in California and are having a hard time finding an insurer who will cover you due to a variety of risk factors unique to you, it may be a provider worth considering. Many larger insurance companies won’t work with drivers who have multiple points on their license – such as those from receiving multiple speeding tickets — but Aspire General is one provider who caters to high-risk drivers.
The company offers two coverage policy tiers that may allow you to find one that fits your budget for car insurance costs, and there are some nice perks that come with being a policyholder, such as having access to 24/7 claims management, advance cancellations notice and the ability to have an SR-22 filed if you need one.
Aspire General car insurance
If you’re a driver with a clean motor vehicle record, Aspire General may not be the right fit for you. The company has over a century of experience writing policies designed more for drivers with high-risk incidents on their driving history, but may not offer the same competitive pricing or policy perks to drivers with a clean record that other major insurers provide. For high-risk drivers in need of Spanish-speaking customer service, however, Aspire General provides the added benefit of bilingual support.
Aspire General offers several types of coverage. The Savings package offers California minimum coverage. California’s minimum coverage insurance requirements are listed as 15/30/5, or $15,000 per person bodily injury liability, $30,000 per accident bodily injury liability, and $5,000 property damage liability.
Aspire General’s Advantage package features higher levels of coverage and additional endorsement to personalize your policy. At this level, your coverage limits may go as high as 100/300/50, and the Advantage package also includes medical payments, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and a collision deductible waiver for greater financial protection.
Aspire General insurance reviews from third-party industry agencies are mixed in favorability, although lower customer satisfaction scores are not necessarily uncommon for high-risk auto insurers. Aspire General has an above-average number of customer complaints for private passenger policies with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), but AM Best gives it a B+ (Good) rating, which indicates the provider has historically adequately satisfied its financial obligations to shareholders. Aspire General does not have rankings with Standard & Poor’s (S&P) or J.D. Power, since it is a smaller company.
Aspire General car insurance discounts
Aspire offers a good array of discounts, depending on which type of coverage you purchase. Some of them are based on age or program participation, including the following:
- Mature driver discount: If you are 55 years of age or older and have completed a state-approved driver safety course, you may be eligible for this discount. You’ll need to submit your certificate of completion to the company, which is good for three years of discounts. After that, you’ll need to take the course again to qualify for the discount.
- Alcohol education awareness discount: If you have completed a state-approved alcohol education awareness program, and do not have more than one alcohol- or drug-related violation on your record, you may be able to earn this discount.
Aspire General car services
Unlike many larger insurers, Aspire General has only one product line: car insurance for California drivers. Unlike larger companies, it does not also sell homeowners insurance or life insurance. In addition to basic policies, it offers SR-22 filings for those who have been convicted of a DUI/DWI or have some other major infraction on their record and are required to provide the form to the DMV.
Drivers looking for non-owner insurance will also find policy options at Aspire General. This type of liability insurance is for drivers who are named on a policy, but who do not own the vehicle and frequently drive it.
Other extras you may add to your policy include stereo/sound system coverage for up to $500, as well as liability insurance for utility trailers of less than 1,500 pounds.
Aspire General social responsibility
Aspire General’s sparse website does not list any philanthropic or civic-based efforts nor does it report on the company’s social responsibility. There is no indication of such efforts in their annual reports.
Not sure if Aspire General is right for you? Consider these alternatives
If you are looking for an alternative California-based insurer, here are a few other companies to consider:
- Mercury: A regional carrier that sells car insurance in several western states, Mercury may offer more competitive rates. Mercury has a robust website featuring online resources for drivers.
- AAA California: If you are a member of the American Automobile Association (AAA), you have access to more than just battery jumps and tire changes. It offers a broad range of coverage options and a generous discount list to keep your costs low.
- 21st Century Insurance: As part of the Farmers Insurance Group, 21st Century sells auto insurance in California and Hawaii. It has an A (Excellent) financial strength rating from AM Best.
