The iPad comes in a variety of models and sizes with different features, storage capacities and networking capabilities. All of these factors determine how much you’ll pay.
Newer, bigger models of Apple’s popular tablet tend to be more expensive. Greater storage capacity also will cost you more, as will LTE-capability versus Wi-Fi-only networking.
The prices listed here are from Apple’s online store. As with any product, it’s a good idea to shop around. Retailers often put the iPad on sale, especially around holidays.
Paying with a credit card that gives you cash back is a way to save even more.
12.9-inch iPad Pro
The first thing consumers notice about the iPad Pro is the big 12.9-inch screen, which is larger than you find on some laptops. Its processor, the A10X chip, makes this tablet “more powerful than most PC laptops,” according to Apple. The Wi-Fi-equipped 64 GB iPad Pro retails at $799; a 256 GB model costs $899; and the 512 GB model with Wi-Fi and cellular access is priced at $1,229.
The 10.5-inch iPad Pro
Prices for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro range from $649 to $1079, and it has the same advanced features as the larger model. The warmth and brightness of the display adjust automatically, depending on ambient light; the 12-megapixel rear camera is capable of recording 4K video; and the front-facing camera has been upgraded to 7 megapixels.
This standard-model iPad replaced the iPad Air 2 and comes in 32GB or 128GB versions, equipped for either Wi-Fi or both Wi-Fi and cell access. The price range is from $329 up to $559. The iPad comes with a 9.7-inch display and an A9 chip, same as on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The iPad Mini 4
The only iPad Mini currently on the market is offered in a 128GB model that has a 7.9-inch screen. It retails for $399, or $529 if you want to add cellular data.
If you want to save money, certified and refurbished iPads offer the same one-year warranty as the new iPads. Apple’s prices for a refurbished 12.9-inch iPad Pro start at $589, while you can get a refurbished 128GB iPad Mini for $419.
