Some rewards credit cards are easy to fall in love with, whether people enjoy using them to maximize rewards, delight in actually redeeming their points, miles or cash back or truly benefit from the cardholder perks they receive. The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express is one such card that is truly irresistible to certain types of users. With bonus rewards in several everyday spending categories and a significant introductory APR offer on purchases, what’s not to love?

To find out why the Amex Blue Cash Everyday is so popular with consumers, we interviewed a faithful user of this card—Forrest McCall, founder of Don’t Work Another Day. If you’re considering this card and wondering why people love it, you’re in the right place.

Generous rewards in everyday spending categories

McCall says his favorite benefit of the Amex Blue Cash Everyday comes in the form of various rewards rates in some of the categories he spends the most in.

“I take advantage of the Amex Blue Cash Everyday card for grocery and gas purchases mainly because of the higher rewards rate,” he says.

This point makes sense considering the Amex Blue Cash Everyday offers 3 percent back on up to $6,000 spent at U.S. supermarkets each year (then 1 percent back), 2 percent back at U.S. gas stations and select U.S. department stores and 1 percent back on other purchases.

Within the U.S. supermarket category alone, users of this card have the potential to earn $180 in cash back rewards every year. That makes this one of the best credit cards for groceries on the market today.

Statement credit redemptions make things easy

While numerous rewards credit cards offer flexible redemption options, including the chance to redeem rewards for gift cards, merchandise travel and more, the Amex Blue Cash Everyday only offers statement credits to your account once your rewards balance reaches $25 or more.

However, McCall says he actually prefers this option due to the simplicity it offers.

“It is fast and convenient for me, and I tend to redeem a few days before paying my card to lower my payment,” he says.

No annual fee required

The Amex Blue Cash Everyday also stands out due to its lack of an annual fee, which helps users make the most of the rewards they earn every year. McCall says he almost always chooses credit cards that don’t charge an annual fee since he finds it difficult to earn enough in rewards to offset the annual fees other cards charge.

With no annual fee, all the rewards McCall earns leave him “ahead” provided he pays his credit card bill in full each month.

Easy to pair with other cash back cards

With no annual fee required, McCall also points to the fact that the Amex Blue Cash Everyday is easy to pair with other cards. While he uses his Amex Blue Cash Everyday for purchases at U.S. supermarkets and U.S. gas stations, a quick switch to the Chase Freedom Unlimited lets him earn 1.5 percent cash back on other non-bonus spending with no annual fee.

Separately, it’s worth noting that the Chase Freedom Unlimited also offers 5 percent back on travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards, 5 percent back on Lyft rides (through March 2022), 5 percent back on grocery store purchases (not including Target or Walmart) on up to $12,000 spent in the first year and 3 percent back on dining and drugstore purchases.

McCall says he also carries the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card—the one card where he does pay an annual fee—in order to earn 4 percent cash back on dining and entertainment.

0% APR for a limited time

Another major benefit the blogger points to is this card’s introductory APR offer for purchases. This offer made it possible for McCall to avoid interest while carrying a balance on new purchases for more than a year.

Currently, new cardholders who choose the Amex Blue Cash Everyday can benefit from an introductory 0 percent APR on purchases for 15 months, followed by a variable APR of 13.99 percent to 23.99 percent.

Incredible credit limits

There is one final reason McCall says he loves his Amex Blue Cash Everyday—his ever-increasing credit limit. He says American Express has been proactive about increasing his credit limit, and that they haven’t done a hard pull on his credit report when he has requested a credit limit increase in the past.

“My Amex has the largest credit limit by far of any card I own, which I appreciate,” he says.

The bottom line

Amex Blue Cash Everyday benefits may not be as robust as you’ll find with premium rewards credit cards that charge an annual fee, but this card does let users rack up generous rewards and score a low interest offer for a limited time. New cardholders can also earn a $200 statement credit after they spend $2,000 on purchases within six months of account opening.

Sometimes simple cards are the best, yet it all depends on an individual’s spending style, personality and goals. While the Amex Blue Cash Everyday could be worth it in your eyes, make sure to compare other rewards credit cards, including the best cash back credit cards, before you decide.
