Qualifying for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, at age 15 as the youngest judoka in the Games thrust Rousey into the world spotlight. She didn’t win a medal then, but her time would come.
At age 16, she became the youngest American to rank No. 1 in the women’s half-middleweight division. The mixed martial artist and judoka won the gold medal in the Junior World and Pan American championships in 2004. In 2008, she won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing, becoming the first American to medal in women’s Olympic judo since the sport’s debut at the 1992 Games.
Ronda made her mixed martial arts debut in 2010, beating fighter Hayden Munoz by submission. This wasn’t enough for her, and on Feb. 23, 2013, she won the first women’s match in UFC. Later, she became the first women’s bantamweight champion for the UFC.
Along with her accomplishments in sports, Rousey has made appearances in several movies such as “The Expendables 3,” “Furious 7,” “Entourage” and “Drunk History.” She also voices herself in two video games, and has been a guest on several TV talk shows, among them, “The View.”

In November 2015, Rousey lost her first match and title with a knockout by Holly Holm in the second round. After another disappointing loss in 2016, for which she still earned $3 million, Ronda began work on a documentary about her life called “Through My Father’s Eyes.” The film begins just after her father’s suicide and follows Rousey through her rise in a male-dominated sport.
In addition to her Olympic medal and multitude of other fighting championships, Rousey has three ESPY Awards and the distinction of being the first MMA athlete to win an ESPY. She has several Female Fighter of the Year honors from the World MMA Awards. In 2014 and 2015, she was named the Best Box Office Draw by “Wrestling Observer Newsletter.” In 2015, she won a Slammy Award from World Wrestling Entertainment.
