How Katie Holmes’ net worth was built

Katie Holmes took modeling classes and acted in musicals as a child, but her initial career ambition was to become a doctor. That all changed after she attended a talent convention in New York and was signed by an agent. A year later, in 1998, her career took off with a role in the film “The Ice Storm.” She then was cast as Joey Potter in the ensemble TV drama “Dawson’s Creek,” which was a hit that lasted six seasons and boosted Holmes’ star power.

Holmes’ success with “Dawson’s Creek” helped her land more roles on the big screen in films such as “Wonder Boys,” “The Gift,” “Pieces of April” and the blockbuster hit “Batman Begins.” In 2005 she began dating actor Tom Cruise; they married in 2006 and that same year, the couple welcomed their only child, Suri. Holmes returned to acting in 2008 when she made her Broadway debut in a revival of Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.” She has also appeared in ads for Garnier Lumia hair color, Gap, Coach, Ann Taylor and other fashion and beauty brands. Her net worth as of April 2017 is $25 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

What she’s up to now

Since her highly publicized divorce from Cruise in 2012, Holmes has continued to diversify her resume and establish herself as a serious actress. She played former first lady Jackie Kennedy in a TV miniseries in 2011 and reprises that role in a followup to the series called “The Kennedys: After Camelot,” which started airing on Reelz in April 2017.  She continues to work steadily in movies, and has two that are in post-production, the comedies “Coup d’Etat” and “Logan Lucky.” She started a fashion line called Holmes & Yang with friend and stylist Jeanne Yang in 2008, but has since decided to end the venture to focus on her movie career and being a mom.

Accolades

Holmes has been nominated for several awards, many of those for her work on “Dawson’s Creek.” In 1999 she won an MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Female Performance in the film “Disturbing Behavior.” She’s been nominated for Teen Choice Awards, other MTV Movie Awards, and Saturn Awards from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.
