How Jimmy Kimmel’s net worth was built

Jimmy Kimmel started his professional career as “Jimmy the Sports Guy” on a Los Angeles radio station. In 1997, he switched to television when he landed a gig as the host of Comedy Central’s game show “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” In 1999, he and two friends established the Jackhole Industries production company, which pitched comedy shows to various networks. One successful pitch was “The Man Show” on Comedy Central. This further boosted his fame and led to appearances on Fox NFL Sunday as a commentator.

His humor eventually caught the attention of the people at ABC, and he was given his own late night show in 2003. “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” became wildly popular and beat out other competing shows in the ratings. The show has aired thousands of episodes in its run of more than a decade. In addition to his own show, Kimmel hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards on two occasions.

Kimmel reportedly earns a $10 million salary for his gig as a talk show host. All of his successes add up to a net worth of $35 million, according to TheRichest.

Kimmel and his wife welcomed a new son on April 21, 2017. Several hours after William John Kimmel was born, a nurse discovered that the infant had a heart defect. Kimmel gave an emotional monologue at the start of his show a week or so later about his son’s birth and the lifesaving surgery he underwent.

Kimmel continues to thrive at ABC, which keeps extending his contract due to his popularity.  In May 2016, the network announced that it renewed his contract for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” through 2019.

As an actor, he played himself in three episodes of “Scandal” and one episode of “Pitch” in 2016. He lent his voice to the animated movie “The Boss Baby,” released in 2017, and he will appear in “The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards.” In 2016, Kimmel was the host of the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, and in February he hosted the 89th Academy Awards for the first time.

Kimmel has been recognized for his talents through award nominations and wins over the course of his career. In 1999, he won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host on “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” He also picked up two Online Film and Television Association awards for this role. For “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” he’s received several nominations for Primetime Emmy and other awards, snagging wins from the Writer’s Guild of America in 2012 and 2016. In 2013, he was recognized for years of entertainment and comedy with the Variety Power of Comedy Award. That same year, Kimmel received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
