How Janet Jackson’s net worth was built

Janet Jackson, the youngest of nine children, was born into one of the most famous families in entertainment. In 1969, her mother moved with Janet to Los Angeles, where her husband was living with sons Michael, Jackie, Tito, Marlon and Jermaine, to further their music career as the Jackson Five.

Janet first took to the stage in 1974 to sing in the Jackson family’s Las Vegas act. She caught the attention of producers and landed roles on a few popular TV sitcoms of the time, including “Good Times” and “A New Kind of Family.”

With the help of her brother, Michael, Janet released her self-titled debut album in 1982. The album had several hit singles, including the Grammy-winning “That’s the Way Love Goes.” Her career skyrocketed with the release of her third album, “Control,” which sold over 8 million copies and featured such hits as “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty” and “When I Think of You.” Album sales, concerts, choreography work and other ventures have helped Jackson to amass a net worth of $175 million as of June 2017, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
