How Idris Elba’s net worth was built
Actor Idris Elba has made his mark in both TV and film. He studied at Britain’s National Youth Music Theatre and landed a string of roles in British TV shows. His career took off slowly, however, and he also worked in a car factory before heading to the United States, where he held jobs as a doorman and a DJ.
He finally got a big break with the HBO series “The Wire.” Several film roles followed, including the 2007 Tyler Perry film “Daddy’s Little Girls,” as well as “28 Weeks Later,” “Obsession,” “Thor,” and “Prometheus.”
He got two high-profile roles that cemented his status as a dramatic actor. The first was the British series “Luther,” where he played a tormented police detective, then in 2013 he portrayed the South African anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela in the film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.”
