How French Montana’s net worth was built
Rapper French Montana was born in Morocco as Karim Kharbouch. He moved to the South Bronx in New York City at age 13 without knowing how to speak English. His love of rap music started early, and his stage name highlights the fact that when he came to the United States he spoke French, as well as Arabic. His last name he borrowed from Al Pacino’s Tony Montana character in the film “Scarface.”
It took a decade of hard work and patience for French Montana to establish himself as a rapper. He launched his professional music career in 2002, releasing several DVDs under an indie label he founded called Cocaine City. The DVDs featured interviews with both veteran and unsigned musicians. In 2009 he started releasing mixtapes with a diverse lineup of DJs as hosts.
He was signed with Akon’s Konvict Muzik label in 2009, but he left after two years to sign with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. Montana released his first studio album, “Excuse My French,” in 2014. As of April 2017 he had a net worth of $8 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
