CD rates for Aug. 15, 2013


I'm Greg McBride, senior financial analyst with, and here is your weekly look at yields on certificates of deposit.

It's been a brutal six-year period for savers with yields on everything from savings accounts and money market accounts to certificates of deposit in nearly perpetual decline over that time. But might there be a glimmer of hope for savers?

Don't look now but the average five-year CD yield nosed higher for a second week in a row, to 0.79 percent. This week even saw the average four-year CD yield inch up to 0.62 percent. Too early to call it a trend, but at least these are moving in the right direction.

Meanwhile, yields on all maturities of three years and less held steady, at their now very familiar record-low levels.
