CD rates for July 25, 2013

I'm Greg McBride, senior financial analyst with, and here is your weekly look at yields on certificates of deposit.

Savers waiting for an increase in CD yields have had their hopes dashed again, as the average five-year CD yield inched lower to 0.77 percent. Not only did the average move lower, but not one out of the 100 banks surveyed boosted yields this week. Yields on shorter maturities all held steady as they have in recent weeks.

Even on larger jumbo deposits, those requiring an initial investment of $100,000 or more, evidence of higher yields was hard to find. The average three-year and five-year jumbo CD yields increased slightly, to 0.51 percent and 0.82 percent, respectively, while all other maturities were unchanged.
