I'm Greg McBride, senior financial analyst with Bankrate.com, and here is your weekly look at yields on certificates of deposit.
Yields on certificates of deposit showed only slight movement, with the three-month CD inching lower to 0.1 percent and the four-year to 0.61 percent -- both new lows -- while the five-year CD ticked higher to 0.78 percent. On jumbo CDs, the average one-year CD moved lower to another record low of 0.26 percent. The jumbo 2 ½-year CD also set a new low of 0.38 percent.
Despite the sudden rise in long-term interest rates, it's been a different story on the short-term interest rates to which CD yields are closely related. Short-term interest rates have been comparatively tame, and that means the prevailing trend of flat to lower deposit yields remains intact.
