CD rates for Jan. 2, 2014


I'm Greg McBride, senior financial analyst with, and here is your weekly look at yields on certificates of deposit.

There wasn't any movement in deposit yields this week, and very little over the course of the year. But what movement was seen, was to the downside. Yields on certificates of deposit began the year at record lows only to finish the year at even lower lows.

The average five-year CD yield began the year at what was then a record low of 0.9 percent, and ended the year even lower, at 0.78 percent. It was much the same story on the one-year CD, where the average yield started 2013 at 0.28 percent only to finish lower at 0.23 percent.
