Mortgage rates for Feb. 21, 2013

I'm Doug Whiteman with Bankrate.com and here is your weekly look at mortgage rates.

The average interest rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose 1 basis points this week to 3.8 percent. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage held steady at 3.02 percent and the average rate for 30-year jumbo mortgages rose 2 basis points to 4.21 percent.

The 5/1 adjustable-rate mortgage picked up 1 basis point, rising to 2.76 percent.

Mortgage rates barely changed this week, giving refinancers and homebuyers some extra time to take advantage of the low-rate environment. If you have good credit, a down payment and a steady income, now is still a great time to buy. If you're still on the fence about whether homeownership is right for you, Bankrate.com has all the tools you need to make the right choice.

When you're ready to take the plunge, find the best mortgage rates in your area with the free search engine at Bankrate.com. I'm Doug Whiteman.
