Will rates rise or remain relatively unchanged? Experts and Bankrate analysts predict where mortgage rates are headed over the next week.
This week (Aug. 11-Aug. 17), the panelists are almost evenly split. Twenty-eight percent of the panelists believe mortgage rates will rise over the next week or so; 36 percent think rates will fall; and 36 percent believe rates will remain relatively unchanged (plus or minus 2 basis points). One expert didn't predict a direction: "Is 'whoa, Nelly' an option?" asks Rebecca Madej, mortgage consultant for Cunningham & Co. Mortgage Bankers in Charlotte, N.C.
