Just in time for the holidays, Citi and American Express are debuting two new products that will help with your Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanza shopping.
First up, Citi on Tuesday unveiled a service called Price Rewind that helps credit card holders get the best prices for the items they buy.
Here's how it works: When cardholders register a purchase made with their Citi credit card, Citi will search hundreds of retail sites over the next 30 days for a lower price. If Citi finds the same item that's at least $25 lower than what was originally paid, the cardholder can receive a refund for the difference, up to $250 per item and $1,000 in total each year.
Citi is offering Price Rewind as a complimentary benefit for certain credit cards.
Next, American Express on Monday introduced mobile gift cards for its credit card rewards program. AmEx cardholders can get a gift card with rewards points, and they can store it in their smartphone. To make purchases, they just need to show the gift card's barcode on their smartphone.
"For example, you are waiting in line at the Gap, sign into your AmEx app or go to the mobile website, use points to get the mobile gift card, and then use it once you get to the register to pay," company spokeswoman Melanie Backs says.
The eight participating retailers in the AmEx mobile gift card program are Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy, PBteen, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, West Elm and Williams-Sonoma.
Would these features help your holiday shopping?
