Chase unveiled next year's quarterly rewards categories for its Chase Freedom credit card along with doubling its sign-up bonus for new cardholders.
The credit card issuer said Tuesday that new Chase Freedom cardholders can earn $200 cash-back after spending $500 in the card's first three months. Before, new cardholders would earn only $100, says company spokesman Rob Tacey.
Chase Freedom cardholders can earn 5 percent back (up to $1,500) in the following, rotating categories. All other purchases earn 1 percent unlimited cash-back.
First quarter (Jan. 1 - March 31): Gas stations, movie theaters and Starbucks
Second quarter (April 1 - June 30): Restaurants and Lowe's home improvement stores
Third quarter (July 1 - Sept. 30): Gas stations and Kohl's
Fourth quarter (Oct. 1 - Dec. 31): Amazon, Zappos and select department stores
Discover also features rotating quarterly categories for 5 percent cash-back bonus (also up to $1,500). The credit card issuer's first-quarter categories are restaurants and movies.
Discover and Chase Freedom cardholders must register their cards in advance to take advantage of the accelerated rewards.
