The average percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards slipped 2 basis points to 14.48 percent from 14.5 percent, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. The fixed rate didn't budge from 13.71 percent, where it has stayed for eight straight weeks. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point.
Half of all consumers have abandoned an online purchase because they were concerned about the privacy and security of their credit card or debit card, according to a survey from PaymentOne. The company, which delivers mobile payments and carrier billing, says 4 out of 5 consumers polled would spend more online if offered an easier and safer payment method.
