The average annual percentage yield, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards slipped 2 basis points to 14.46 percent from 14.48 percent, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point. The fixed rate remained at 13.71 percent, where it has sat for six straight weeks.
The new federal consumer watchdog group, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, released statistics Wednesday on the number of credit card complaints it received from July 21 to Oct. 31. Consumers filed 5,074 complaints, of which 84 percent were forwarded to the issuer for resolution. What were the most popular gripes? Billing disputes, APR or interest rate, and identity theft or fraud.
