The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards slipped 6 basis points to 14.50 percent from 14.56 percent, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point. The fixed APR rate stayed steady at 13.71 percent, where it hasn't moved since late October.
Bank of America is rolling out a test program this week that offers cardholders retailer discounts based on their shopping history. The national bank is testing the program first on employees in Nevada, North Carolina and South Carolina and then on staffers nationwide by mid-February. The bank joins USAA, Citi, Wells Fargo and Discover in offering these merchant-funded incentives.
