Credit Cards

  • 13.79% (all fixed)
  • 14.35% (all variable)

Here's a look at the state of credit card rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted Sept. 22, 2010.

Average interest rates on both fixed-rate and variable-rate credit cards remained unchanged from last week. The mean fixed rate for purchases held at 13.79 percent, and the average variable rate clung to 14.35 percent.

Yesterday the Federal Open Market Committee decided to maintain its target for the federal funds rate, which means that the prime rate, which serves as the index for most variable-rate credit cards, will remain unchanged from 3.25 percent.
