Here's a look at the state of credit card rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted Oct. 13, 2010.
The average variable rate for all credit cards climbed 1 basis point to 14.37 percent while the mean fixed rate stayed at 13.76 percent for a second consecutive week.
A new Credit.com survey of 1,011 adults found that a nearly equal number of consumers use debit cards or cash for typical purchases. Just 21 percent of respondents said they use a credit card most often for purchases, while 40 percent said they tend to pay with cash, and 39 percent swipe their debit card for most transactions.
