Credit Cards

  • 13.74% (all fixed)
  • 14.39% (all variable)

Here's a look at the state of credit card rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted July 21, 2010.

No change in average credit card interest rates this week. The mean fixed rate for all cards is 13.74 percent and the average variable APR stands at 14.39 percent.

President Barack Obama signed the financial reform bill into law on Wednesday. Among the many provisions in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act is one that will require lenders, landlords and other companies to disclose a free credit score to a consumer if the score triggered an "adverse action," such as a denial of credit or a rate hike. The score provided to the consumer must be the score actually used in the decision, which means that consumers will soon gain access to credit scores not currently sold to the public.

Bankrate.com makes it easier to find low-rate credit cards and credit cards with rewards. You can search by issuer, card type or credit score.
