Credit Cards

  • 13.36% (all fixed)
  • 14.34% (all variable)

Here's a look at the state of credit card rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted Jan. 12, 2011.

For all types of fixed-rate credit cards, the current average APR for purchases stands at 13.36 percent. The average variable rate slid 5 basis points down this week to 14.34 percent.

Following a trend of improvement over the last year, the bank card delinquency rate was little changed in the third quarter of 2010 compared to the second quarter. Credit card delinquencies rose slightly from 3.62 percent in the previous quarter to 3.64 percent, according to the American Bankers Association's Consumer Credit Delinquency Bulletin. The ABA defines a credit card delinquency as a payment overdue by 30 days or more.

Bankrate.com makes it easier to find cash-back credit cards and low-rate cards. You can search by issuer, card type or credit score.
