Here's a look at the state of credit card rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted Feb. 9, 2011.
The average APR for purchases on variable-rate credit cards rose 2 basis points to 14.43 percent this week. The mean purchase rate on all fixed-rate cards remained at 13.36 percent for its sixth consecutive week.
Credit card balances grew in December for the first time in more than two years. Revolving credit, which is mostly credit card debt, increased 3.5 percent from the previous month to $800.5 billion, according to the Federal Reserve's most recent monthly report on consumer credit.
