The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards inched up 2 basis points to 14.41 percent, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point. The fixed rate stayed steady at 13.36 percent. It hasn't moved all year.
American Express and Capital One each debuted new credit cards this week. American Express introduced its first cobranded credit and charge cards with an automaker, Mercedes-Benz, in the U.S. It also is the first cobranded card with membership rewards. Capital One unveiled a cash-back credit card that earns 1 percent back on all purchases along with an anniversary bonus equal to 50 percent of earned cash back in the previous year.
