Credit Cards
- 13.36% (all fixed)
- 14.43% (all variable)
Here's a look at the state of credit card rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted April 6, 2011.
Average interest rates for fixed-rate and variable-rate credit cards remained flat for yet another week. The mean fixed APR for credit card purchases rests at 13.36 percent and the mean variable rate stands at 14.43 percent.
Credit card issuers have stepped up their marketing efforts to consumers and, in some cases, are waiving certain fees or offering a longer introductory rate duration on their cards, according to a new report from Mintel Comperemedia, a firm that tracks credit card mailings. U.S. consumers received 1.4 billion credit card offers in the fourth quarter, marking the fifth quarter of successive growth. Some issuers waived balance transfer fees and foreign transaction fees on some of their cards, and many issuers offered teaser rate durations of 15, 17 or even 18 months or more.
