Here's a look at the state of credit card rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted April 20, 2011.
Variable interest rates for purchases on credit cards averaged 14.44 percent, up 3 basis points from last week, as one card offer was deleted from the survey. Fixed interest rates have been parked at 13.36 percent since the beginning of 2011.
Many credit card holders aren't happy with their credit card rewards programs. According to a recent survey conducted by BIGresearch for Capital One Financial Corp., just 22 percent of consumers who had a rewards card said they were "completely satisfied" with the program. Nearly 30 percent of those who hadn't redeemed their points in the last three months blamed a lack of good redemption options as the reason. More than 70 percent wanted the option of redeeming points for cash.
