Bank of America customers who want to add a little culture to their lives might want to check out the bank's Museums on Us program, which offers free admission to more than 150 cultural venues in 94 cities in 31 states on the first full weekend of every month.

The program, now in its 16th season, is part of BofA's cultural support effort, which is intended to involve local communities, individuals and organizations in arts, culture and historical activities, according to BofA global arts and culture executive Rena DeSisto.

Customers of BofA or Merrill Lynch can present their debit card or credit card and a valid photo identification to gain free general admission, which is limited to the cardholder. Fundraising events, special exhibitions and ticketed shows are excluded. The free admission cannot be combined with other offers.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, The Art Institute of Chicago and Houston Zoo in Texas are among the program's continuing participants.

Among this year's newcomers is El Museo de Barrio in New York City.

El Museo Director Margarita Aguilar said in a BofA statement that the museum is always aiming to expand its visitor base and expose more people to the diverse cultural heritage of Latino, Latin American and Caribbean art.

"Participating in Museums on Us will help us drive admissions and encourage new members of our community to visit our permanent collection and many exhibitions," Aguilar said.

Other newcomers this year include the MIT Museum in Cambridge, Mass.; Portland Children's Museum in Portland, Ore.; Orlando Science Center in Orlando, Fla.; and the San Antonio Museum of Art in San Antonio, as well as more than a dozen other institutions in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia, Washington and other states.

A full list can be found at BofA's website. Are these cultural activities worth it for you to have a checking account at this bank?
