Other apps worth mentioning

Debt-reduction calculators allow you to track your debt and the effects of paying it down.

Debt Payoff Planner (99 cents) by Adonis Apps and Debt Snowball by Double E ($1.49). Both will let you input loans (debt), then create, manage and maintain a payoff plan. Once you set up accounts, it will track where you are in your debt repayment and how long it will take to repay the loan. The user has to input all of the data and keep up with it to make these worthwhile applications.

Grocery shopping

Groceries are a large part of household expenditures. Managing this expense is a major part of keeping your budget in line.

ToMarket ($3.99) by Olias Solutions. This type of app can assist in adding to productivity but also in keeping the grocery budget in line. The user-created lists are easy to start, maintain and organize. Prices need to be manually entered unless your Droid smart phone has the ability to download and use a bar-scan app. This option allows ease in tracking and keeping a price history. To get started, there is a light version. If this is still too much, look at Out of Milk by Capigami. While it does not have all the functionality of ToMarket, it does have a user friendly interface that will make pen-and-paper grocery lists obsolete, and it's free.

ATM shopping

ATM fees should be avoided when possible. In the event you find yourself in an unfamiliar area, there is no need to stop at the first ATM you see and risk paying a fee for the privilege of using it.

MoneyPass ATM Locator by LocatorSearch LLC. This free app will determine your location, locate a surcharge-free ATM in the area, and then give you directions to it.

Managing store loyalty cards

One recommendation that is made regularly to consumers is to join store loyalty programs in order to take advantage of the discounts offered.

Key Ring Reward Cards by Mobestream Media. This free financial app basically keeps track of all your store loyalty cards. You know those cards that are attached to your key ring? Once the information is uploaded, the store can scan the Droid screen to get the information. It supports coupons and store specials for a large group of retailers and allows you to enroll in programs as well.

Last word

I hope readers with Droid smart phones have found a new financial app or two to try out. Personal finance is just that -- personal -- so an app that works for one user may not be best for another.
