Who pays for your wrecked rental car? You do, unless you're covered by insurance.

Most rental car companies will waive your responsibility for damaged or stolen cars for a daily fee. But your credit card might offer a better deal. Many cards provide free insurance coverage for damage or loss to a rental car as long as you charge the rental to that card.
