Sun shouldn't damage modern car finish

Dear Terry,
I plan to buy a small SUV (Honda, Toyota or Subaru) either new or as old as a 2000 model. Of necessity, it always will be parked in direct sunlight. I live in the Napa Valley. Summer highs are about 95 and winter lows are about 35. Humidity is about average. I'm nowhere near salt water.

Could you please tell me what color(s) to buy and/or to avoid? What about a "pearl" finish?
-- Charles

Dear Charles,
Most modern car finishes with a clear-coat protective finish will hold up well under even extreme conditions. In places that get a lot of sun -- like California -- going with lighter colors will lessen heat buildup in the car's interior.

I would look at light silver, blue or even white, and interiors that are shades of gray or beige. By the way, silver and white are currently the most popular new car colors.
