My ex has my car and won't give it back

Terry Jacksonq_v2.gifDear Terry, I have purchased a 2007 Maxima that was financed by my stepfather (as borrower) and my ex-girlfriend (as co-borrower). She has the car because I left for a while, but I have paid on the vehicle. We want to know how to get her name off the loan. My stepfather has passed away and it really leaves us not too many options. My ex and I don't talk, but I want my car back. How can it be done?

a_v2.gifDear Sergio,
The only way to get your ex's name off the loan is to basically refinance it under your name, which of course she would have to agree to because she would be giving up an ownership stake in the vehicle. Good luck with that.

Here are this week's reader questions:
  • Good time to buy a car? Yes and no
  • How can I get car back from my ex?
  • Do I have to give dealer a refund?
  • How much do I owe after car's auctioned?
