It's all about cars and your cash

Terry JacksonWhat's the one thing we want to know when it comes to our cars and trucks? It's simple: Did we waste our money?

Whether it's a question of getting a good deal on a new car, getting top dollar for a trade-in, or not spending too much money on car maintenance, finance or insurance, the goal is to find sound, reliable advice.

We've all seen the ads in which dealers boast they that sell cars at the factory invoice price, or even below. There are the claims that "any trade is worth $10,000'' or "all credit applications will be accepted.''

Finding the answers isn't easy.

That's one of the goals of this Bankrate column. With more than 25 years of experience covering the automotive scene, I've seen it all and heard it all and can help you cut through the hype and confusion.

Each Monday I'll pass along news and updates -- and answer your questions -- on cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles, minivans, hybrids, motorcycles and everything in between. But keep in mind -- Bankrate is dedicated to consumer financial news and this column will not be aimed at issues such as performance, how-to repairs and diagnosing problems.

But if it's related to automobiles and money -- no matter what the issue -- it's fair game for this column. I welcome your letters and questions -- e-mail me at autoqa@bankrate.com.
