2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE
This made-over version of Mercedes-Benz's best-selling SUV (formerly known as the M-Class) features restyled front and rear ends that Mercedes says are "considerably more appealing." There are five different powertrains to choose from, including versions in four, six and eight cylinders. Engine choices include a 201-horsepower, four-cylinder diesel model that Mercedes says will have best-in-class fuel economy; a 329-horsepower, direct-injected twin-turbo V-6; and an AMG 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 that produces 550 horsepower, or 577 horsepower on the S Model.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE will also come as a plug-in hybrid version, which will utilize a direct-injected V-6 engine paired with a hybrid electric system that will produce a combined 436 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid GLE can travel up to 81 mph on electric power alone, and the driver can select electric-only mode or hybrid mode. The GLE also offers six programs to customize ride and handling, including modes for slippery roads, sportier driving and off-road driving, which also raises the suspension for additional ground clearance.
The GLE is expected to arrive at dealerships in August. Pricing has not been announced, but the 2015 Mercedes-Benz M-Class starts at $49,800.
