Car wax: to bead or not to bead?
Dear Terry,
I bought a new 2008 car and was told that when you wash a car, it should not bead. Instead, the water should flow off, indicating a good wax job. I always thought that after you wash a car that it should bead.

Dear Sharon,
Some car dealers are telling buyers that their clear-coat-protected paint will never need waxing. That's not exactly right. Check out this very valuable
primer on car waxes and taking care of your car's finish.
The question of beading versus sheeting has more to do with washing your car. Some car washes and some home products like the Mr. Clean Autodry Car Wash System ionize the rinse water so it sheets off the car and makes hand-drying less necessary. But when it rains, the water should bead up on the surface, showing you still have good wax protection. | | Here are this week's reader questions: | | | | • | Some car sales stall, others zoom ahead | | • | Should water bead after I wax my car? | | • | Is a faxed contract legally binding? | | • | Should I sell my low-mileage lease? |
